Cynthia Averetta Coles

The Cynthia Coles Circle was organized in September 1976 at Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Louis Johnson, who incorporated the circle into the Department of Missions. The Circle was named in honor of Cynthia Coles, an active member who died from complications caused by Sickle Cell Anemia in 1976 at the age of twenty-one.

Our Mission

The Cynthia Coles Circle has supported the Sickle Cell Disease Association of American (SCDAA)-Michigan Chapter since 1976.  Every year, we have been blessed with the support of loyal church members and persons & organizations in the community that has enabled us to contribute 100% of the net proceeds from our annual benefit. In Helping to Break the Sickle Cycle, as of May 2016,  over $163,000 has been raised to fight against Sickle Cell Disease.

The funds are contributed to SCDAA to further the goal for a cure, promote awareness of this disease and to assist the Parents Support Group with summer camp for children who are afflicted with the disease to a week of fun with other children like themselves in a safe environment that caters to their specific needs.

God has smiled on us, giving us the spirit to persevere.
